Abstract

With the spread of the coronavirus in the world, sociologists also studied the context, conditions, causes, dimensions, consequences, and methods of prevention and treatment of this disease as a social issue with a sociological approach. The present study was conducted with a sociological approach and aimed to investigate the effect of social capital on anxiety about death from coronavirus through the mediation of the variables of perceived social support and perceived stress. The present study was descriptive-explanatory and the data collection tool was a questionnaire. The statistical population was all citizens aged 18 and above in the city of Sanandaj, and 383 people were considered as a statistical sample through a two-stage cluster sampling method. The results of the Pearson correlation test show that there was a significant relationship and correlation between all the main and mediator variables of the study. The findings of the structural equation test show that the effect of social capital and social support on anxiety about death from coronavirus was a reducing effect and stress had an increasing effect. The results of the model fit test indicate that the fit and support of the empirical data from the theoretical model of the research are favorable. The level of death anxiety caused by Corona was lower among those citizens of Sanandaj who had higher social capital. Also, in addition to the direct effect, social capital also indirectly affects the level of death anxiety of citizens; this means that this effect of social capital was in the form of a direct (increasing) effect through the path of perceived stress and in the form of an inverse (decreasing) effect through the path of social support.
