Abstract

Nietzsche's ideas have been understood and constructed in different ways in different societies and historical periods. The purpose of this article is how to construct the historical translation of Nietzsche's works and understanding in Iran. The research method in this study is Foucault's genealogy. Nietzsche's attention to the East, especially Iranian culture and mythology, caused the attention and interaction of Iranian thinkers with Nietzsche. Iranian society and thinkers have created and summoned Nietzsche in a timely and synchronistic way and in accordance with Iranian culture. The main focus of Iranians' attention to Nietzsche indicates a void and loss that Iranian society has felt. In different periodizations, some of Nietzsche's topics and concepts in Iran have been understood and constructed from the source language (German/English) to the target language (Persian) based on current events. In the first period, he has been named and elaborated with various metaphors and concepts such as believer, idol breaker, sage, with an enlightened spirit, with an epic spirit, Iranian-looking, etc. In the second period, which coincides with the revolution and the war, Nietzsche's enlightenment and anti-modernism were highlighted in Iran. In the third or post-revolutionary period of the era, ideologies have reached a dead end and the society has faced disorder (chaos) and social anomie. During this period, many works of Nietzsche were translated and written in Iran, and the antagonistic and nihilistic face of Nietzsche was revealed in a metaphorical and genealogical way.
