The role of social changes in the transformation of residential architecture in the Pahlavi period in Isfahan with regard to the role of women

Abstract

Architectural evolutions are the reflection of various changes. While the Pahlavi period in Iran was the source of extensive changes, political, cultural, social and economic currents were taking shape at this time, which influenced the change of concepts such as gender identity and its reflection in the architecture of cities is visible. This research aims to investigate the influence of factors on gender identification and its reflection in the houses of Isfahan city during the Pahlavi period. In the research of the underlying factors of the transformation of the houses of Isfahan, with regard to the role of gender , it was asked that with an interpretative-historical method, it identified and introduced the currents influencing the concept of gender, and a descriptive-analytical research method was used to show its reflection on The architecture of houses is used. The results show that a series of transformations began in Iran and their gradual acceptance or imposition in people's lifestyle created the context for changes in the concept of gender and home. Among the most important of these factors, we can mention the constitutional revolution, urban renovations, industrialization, change in consumption culture, and matters of arranging interior spaces. The physical manifestation of these changes is in the transformation of traditional houses into multi-family houses with shared courtyards, the introduction of new architecture such as the appearance of the pass-through house, the creation of residential settlements to accommodate the workforce and high-rise buildings and apartments observed as a result of population increase.
