The position of the public sphere in urban policy-making: study of Ferdowsi pedestrian walkway in Sanandaj city

Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of investigating the position of the public domain in urban policy making in Ferdowsi pedestrian street of Sanandaj city. The theoretical basis of the research was based on Jacobs's book. This study was mostly based on critical methods. In this method, society and culture are criticized throughout social sciences and humanities. The statistical population studied in this research was all the people and municipal officials and citizens of Sanandaj city. The sampling method was purposeful and progressed until theoretical saturation in order to avoid duplication of data and finally 12 people were studied. Of these 12 people, 6 were men (50%) and 6 were women. The results of this study identified 7 general categories including financial costs, organizing traffic, improper organization of peddlers, inadequate services and facilities, social justice and weak security, weak socio-cultural interactions and preservation of traditional context and gentrification. In general, along with some positive effects of this plan, there are also many negative effects that need to be further investigated and taken into consideration for future plans.
