Abstract

Howard Becker, considers the process of formation artwork as like any other human activities that requires the cooperation of most of the time numerous groups of individuals with diverse expertise; he introduce these groups as “artistic communities”. In these communities, there are varying degrees of division of labor and contracts that form cooperative relationships. Also, the type of activity of the members of these communities is divided into focal and support activities. Our main issue in this article is divided into two parts. Firstly, Can the factors and involved individuals in the production and supply of Iranian rugs, as well as the type of relationship between them, be considered as an "art production community"? Secondly, how is the "division of labor system" as well as the type of "focal activity" in the various processes of carpet production in Iran? The research method is descriptive-analytical and data collection is based on library studies and field research.
The statistical population of this research consists of seven main methods of carpet production from different sphere and periods. The results indicate the fact that many of the main components of creating arts societies are also applicable to carpet production communities. Also, the main difference among carpet producer communities can be sought in order of importance in changing the type of focal activity, the division of labor, the content of the contracts and the degree of adherence to them.
