Abstract

Digital entrepreneurship has emerged as a transformative force in shaping economies, societies, and business practices. Despite its growing importance, the socio-economic impacts of digital entrepreneurship on Iranian knowledge-based companies, along with the concomitant challenges and opportunities within these ventures, have been under-researched. Therefore, this study investigates the socio-economic impacts of digital entrepreneurship on Iranian knowledge-based and entrepreneurial companies, whilst also considering the challenges and opportunities arising within these Iranian businesses. Employing a quantitative methodology, data were collected through the distribution of a structured questionnaire to 50 Iranian knowledge-based and entrepreneurial companies and subsequently analyzed. The results indicate that digital entrepreneurship significantly improves customer experience ( 66%) and promotes inter-organizational collaboration (mean score: 3.32 out of 5), contributing significantly to the reduction of social disparities. However, its impact on profitability and employment remains modest. Furthermore, challenges such as high implementation costs and skill shortages were identified as major obstacles, while key opportunities identified were access to new markets (46%) and reduced operational costs, resulting in increased efficiency (50%). These results suggest that digital entrepreneurship holds transformative potential for reducing inequalities, fostering innovation, and addressing socio-economic challenges. Finally, this research can provide new insights for policymakers, and businesses, seeking to leverage digital entrepreneurship for broader social benefits.
