Abstract

Contemporary Iranian photographers are trying to criticize modernity and revive traditions by questioning and representing the challenges arising from modernity. Therefore, this article aims to answer the question of whether the representation of modernity in the works of contemporary Iranian photographers is for what purpose and to express what issues?. The findings of this study are based on the fact that artists deal with concepts such as the inferiority of women, the revival and preservation of traditions, the dangers and problems of modernity, ignoring identity with their works, and emphasizing the contrast between tradition and modernity. In this way, by emphasizing cultural particularism, they prevent its decline and oblivion in the process of globalization. This study examines the works of contemporary Iranian photographers. The purpose of this research is to explain and analyze the explicit and implicit signs in the works of artists and pay attention to the obvious differences in the critical representation of modernity. The approach of this research is qualitative and descriptive-analytical. The information related to the conceptual framework was collected in a library method, and the photos and information related to photographic works were collected from sources such as personal websites and in some cases personal archives of artists. The results of its investigation are presented in detail in a separate table at the end of the article before the conclusion (Table 2). The samples examined in this article were selected according to the research question and purposeful sampling.
