With the increasing dominance of media and virtual spaces and unprecedented migration to larger cities, the new generation in Balochistan has been exposed to diverse patterns of lifestyle, cultural consumption, and new channels of identification, and has found a cultural disconnect from the older generation. Examples of this intergenerational cultural gap can be clearly seen in the fading of adherence to old customs, tribal solidarity, and local traditions. The specific conditions of Balochistan, including historical underdevelopment, social marginalization, and structural discrimination, have also exacerbated and deepened the grounds for this gap. The present study seeks to address the issue of what are the main underlying foundations of this intergenerational cultural gap in Balochistan, using an analytical-descriptive method and documentary and field data, and how this phenomenon can be managed in order to reduce the harm and suffering it causes in the daily lives of both generations. The results of the analysis show that the generation gap among the Baloch people is the product of the confrontation of two different historical-social experiences of two generations, one of which relies on tradition and survival in conditions of deprivation and marginalization, and the other that is linked to education, media, and the transnational world. Therefore, creating spaces for dialogue and intergenerational interaction in which different narratives of life and identity are represented can be a useful solution. At the institutional and structural level, policies that, for example, formal and informal education, transmit the Baloch cultural and linguistic heritage and at the same time provide new opportunities for social and economic participation of the younger generation can also help solve the problem. Civic and cultural institutions can also act as mediators and design joint projects between generations (for example, in the field of art, local music, or social activities). Thus, the generation gap is seen not as a crisis, but as an opportunity to rethink Baloch identity and redefine the relationship between tradition and modernity, which both reduces suffering and harm and provides a basis for empowering the community against future challenges.
