The objective of this study was to identify the socio-cultural drivers of future changes in handball in Iraq. The research employed a qualitative approach with a systematic exploratory methodology. Participants included 83 individuals from diverse groups: the president and members of the Iraqi National Handball Federation, premier league and national team coaches, managers, referees, and members of the federation’s active committees. Sampling was purposive, with 22 interviews conducted based on theoretical saturation. Selection criteria included expertise and experience in handball, representation of various groups and organizations, gender and age diversity, and collaboration capability. Research tools comprised systematic literature review and structured exploratory interviews. Instrument validity was assessed and confirmed through legal and scientific sample validity, expert opinion, and inter-rater reliability. A multi-stage conceptual coding method with a systems analysis approach was used for data analysis. The conceptual framework included four levels, 10 perspectives, 47 dimensions, and 101 key components (recurrent themes). Results indicated that support and resources influenced the role of institutions and organizations, development and participation; institutions and organizations affected socio-cultural challenges; socio-cultural challenges impacted development and participation; and development and participation, in turn, influenced support and resources.Results indicated that support and resources influenced the role of institutions and organizations, development and participation; institutions and organizations affected socio-cultural challenges; socio-cultural challenges impacted development and participation; and development and participation, in turn, influenced support and resources.
