Today, one of the causes of environmental pollution is how to consume home energy. Global statistics also show an increase in energy consumption. Of course, energy consumption among individuals and families is done in various ways and styles, which is interpreted as the culture of energy consumption. And this culture of consumption depends on various factors.The main purpose of this study is to identify different cultures of energy consumption (gas and electricity) among Mashhad families in 1398.To achieve this goal, a combination of methods was used, first in a qualitative method (semi-structured interview with 27 people) and in the second stage through a quantitative method (by distributing a questionnaire among 599 people) from Mashhad households.
According to the results of the qualitative section, in general, the two main cultures "consuming" and "saving" with eight different subcultures; Committed frugality, passive frugality, inevitable frugality, ritual consumerism, unbalanced consumerism, imitation consumerism, pragmatic consumers, and Conspicuous consumers. The results of the quantitative section showed that 59.33% of the sample is in the consumer culture and 40.67% is in the saving culture. 21.2% of the sample have alittle environmental knowldege. The analyses also showed that in the subculture of particularist consumerism, people consuming this style are generally more focused in developed areas.
