"Gol Agha" was a critical and humorous magazine in the 90s which was highly popular among different strata of society for addressing the socio-political issues of the society through the lens of satirical literature and the use of rhetorical subtleties.
The critical discourse analysis of this work aims to explore the confrontational approaches of magazine’s intellectuals with various ideologies and power relations, through the multitude of visible and hidden textual symptoms in the context of the audience's background knowledge and put the magazine's viewpoint on these issues under the microscope.
To achieve this goal, seven of his works in the form of poetry and prose from 1992 have been selected, which have been examined in accordance with Fairclough's approach inferred from his articles.
The results indicate that at the descriptive level, "Gol Agha”, with its unparalleled mastery of classical and contemporary literature and by using a wide and sometimes self-made vocabulary as well as masterful structures, has provided its readers with intriguing and key clues; which at the interpretive level gives the readers nuanced understanding of the situational and historical context of the discourse in the context of their background knowledge. And finally at the explanatory level, it has made the power relations and dealing with the dominant ideologies tangible and comprehensible.
